How Pilates works

Pilates is a non-impact, relaxing yet effective form of exercise consisting of easy, slow controlled movements originally developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the last century, and now modified to offer alternatives to complete novices but also equally suitable for advanced exercisers.

Pilates and health

Pilates is recommended highly by the medical profession, particularly for back pain relief and postural problems.

Who is Pilates for?

Pilates is suitable for everyone, men and women, of all ages and abilities. The classes are friendly and informal and everyone is made very welcome.

Pilates works in a different way to other fitness techniques in that it targets the deep postural muscles and works by building strength from the inside out. It promotes good posture and can change the way you look, feel and move. Pilates can reshape, rebalance and realign the body, making it longer, leaner and more supple. It is also one of the most effective forms of excercise for achieving flat abdominal muscles!
